Receive requests for emergency and non-emergency services from residents and businesses within Sherburne County.
Promptly dispatch law enforcement, fire, ambulance or other emergency services as are appropriate.
Provide radio communication and other communication support to County, City and State law enforcement and other agencies as required.
Work Schedule: Shifts are bid on a seniority basis for the calendar year. Based on seniority work schedule could be a 10 or 12 hour day or overnight shift with either set or alternating days off.
Work Eligibility: Must be eligible to work in the United States, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, and not have been convicted of any felony or certain misdemeanors. Any offer of employment will be contingent on successful completion of a mandatory written test, pre-employment physical examination, drug and alcohol test, psychological examination, and a background investigation.
These examples of typical duties do not include all possible tasks for this classification and do not limit the assignment of related tasks. Regular attendance according to the department’s approved work schedule is required for all Sherburne County positions.
1. Receive calls for service from the public or other agencies, determine priority and nature of the request and dispatch the appropriate response in a timely manner.
2. Activate the Emergency Operations Center in the event of a large scale emergency and coordinate all emergency service personnel and agencies until activation is complete.
3. Monitor weather conditions and provide weather updates to field personnel pending severe weather.
4. Sound Civil Defense Sirens when directed during major emergencies and natural disasters.
5. Monitor closely all assigned radio channels.
6. Perform weekly pager tests for the fire departments within Sherburne County. Test the civil defense sirens monthly in coordination with Wright County dispatch.
7. Receive non-emergency calls from the public. Provide non-confidential information when available or route to the appropriate agency as necessary.
8. Create the Initial Complaint Report in the CAD system, Maintain accurate record entries for all calls for service. Work with the NCIC and MINCIS federal/state computer systems to maintain and update the stolen/wanted vehicle file, missing person file,
9. Maintain Order for Protection and Harassment Restraining Order files. Run criminal history and background checks for firearm permits, criminal justice employment, social services and other authorized personnel and agencies.
10. Maintain all FAX, radio, telephone and CAD systems in dispatch and arrange for emergency repairs when required.
High school diploma and two years of work experience in a call center, multi-tasked oriented retail or restaurant environment or other similar customer service related work required (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
Licenses or certifications required for the position: CJIS terminal operator certification, but can be obtained after hire.
Other training which is desirable for the position: Experience as a 911 Dispatcher, 911 dispatch certification and 911 emergency telephone system experience within the last five years is desirable but not required. Current CJIS certification is desirable also.
Work Environment: The majority of tasks are performed while seated. Acute hearing, vision, speech, memory recall, and manual dexterity are necessary to perform essential tasks. The position requires frequent to constant turning/twisting, reaching, grasping, and pinching. The ability to distinguish between colors is essential. Assigned tasks require attention to detail and concentration to numerous activities occurring simultaneously. The nature of the job causes persons working in this position to sometimes be under periods of stress.
Equipment utilized includes but is not limited to: CAD, computers, 911 systems, TTD machines, a variety of alarms and monitors, head sets, phones, and two-way radios.
